Operatives of the Nigerian Army in a joint operation with local vigilantes have successfully rescued six kidnapped victims and dislodged scores of bandits in Shanga forest, Kebbi State.
The combined security operation was launched at Shanga forest on Friday after reports that the kidnapped victims were taken there.
According to the Director of Security of the Cabinet Office, Birnin Kebbi, AbdulRahman Usman, the six males rescued victims are all hale and hearty and have since been reunited with their families.
He explained troops of 1 Battalion Dukku Barracks Birinin Kebbi on the clearance operation in conjunction with local Vigilante conducted a raid operation to Kogon Damisa Hill around Saminaka in Shanga Local Government Area, a border town between Kebbi and Niger State.
He disclosed that during the operation, the team dislodged a large number of bandits and rescued the six kidnapped victims.
"The victims have been reported missing, I mean kidnapped for some time now.
"Security operatives in the area comprising the army and the local vigilante were alerted and they swung into action inside the Shanga bush. Luckily the victims were rescued by the security."
Usman commended the gallant efforts of the troops while also thanking the unwavering commitment of Nasir Idris' led administration toward supporting the security agencies in the state.
He said that apart from the continuous logistics support from the governor to security operatives, the state chief security officer has given marching orders to all security personnel to deal decisively with any threat to the lives and properties of people in the State.
