Army troops eliminate terrorists in Borno, Nasarawa, recover

The Nigerian Army revealed on Saturday that its troops successfully undertook clearing and search operations in Borno and Nasarawa States, resulting in the deaths of terrorists and the seizure of weaponry.

In a statement released on its X handle on Saturday, the Army stated that the operations were carried out on April 19 in coordination with hybrid forces in Kana Village, Biu Local Government Area, Borno State, and areas of Nasarawa State.

According to the statement, during the mission, forces encountered militants near Nguma Village and killed two in a gunfight.

The report noted that the forces also seized two AK-47 weapons, one motorbike, six bicycles, and other goods abandoned by the fleeing militants. The clearing effort is still occurring in the surrounding region.

The statement further mentioned that troops in Nasarawa State conducted a cordon-and-search operation at suspected criminal hideouts in Abuni Village in the Awe Local Government Area on the same day, based on solid intelligence.

The army also stated the operation resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 weapons, two AK-47 magazines, and 35 7.62 mm (special) bullets.

“The recovered weapons were found in the residence of one Mr Abdullahi Musa, leading to the arrest of other suspects.

“These successful operations point to troops’ commitment in ensuring the safety and security of the populace. We urge members of the public to continue to support the Nigerian Army, other services and security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations”, it added.

Also in a related report, troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized a suspected notorious terrorist who has been terrorizing communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The success was recorded during a clearance operation in collaboration with hunters and other security agencies in the state.

Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations who disclosed this in a statement on Friday said the operation occurred on Thursday.

He said the suspected terrorist identified as Gambo Kachalla has been terrorizing communities in the LGA, including Garau, Tella, and Jukun among others.
