'Arrested Development' Star Jessica Walter Passes On At 80

Jessica Walter, an American actress known for playing Lucille Bluth on the sitcom Arrested Development, has died at the age of 80.

Her passing was confirmed on Thursday, March 25, by her daughter Brooke Bowman (who is an entertainment industry executive). The cause of death has not been revealed.

Confirming her mother's demise, Bowman said in a statement, "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mum Jessica. A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on-screen and off."

She added that her mother would be remembered for "her wit, class and overall joie de vivre", or life of love.

Speaking on her death, her Arrested Development co-star Tony Hale said, "She was a force, and her talent and timing were unmatched.

Actress Viola Davis commented: "I loved you, Jessica Walter. I grew up watching you and admiring you. Always consistently excellent."

Jessica Walter was born on January 31, 1941. Apart from being popular for her role in Arrested Development, she was known for providing the voice of Malory Archer on the animated series Archer.

She started her acting career on stage and soon moved to television, featuring in many popular TV series. Her portrayal as the titular character in the series Amy Prentiss won her the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie.

Walter's earliest movie role was in the film Play Misty for Me (1971). She received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. Her other movie roles include Spring Fever (1983), Temptress (1995), Dummy (2003), and The Mimic (2021).
