Arsenal Are Two Weeks Ahead Of Man City — Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has downplayed his side's fitness ahead of Sunday's Community Shield clash with Arsenal.

The treble-winning Spaniard believes that Mikel Arteta's men are better prepared for the meeting at Wembley on the basis that City concluded the 2022-23 season two weeks later than Arsenal.

"How we are right now, the situation that we are in, we finished [last season] two weeks later than Arsenal and we start [this season] two weeks later," Guardiola said in his pre-match presser on Friday.

"So, we are not in the best way. We struggle to restart every season but it's fine, and hopefully our mentality can help us to be there and compete."

City beat Arsenal to the Premier League title last season despite the Gunners occupying top spot for a record number of days in a top-flight season.

The Gunners lost both the home and reverse fixture to City in the Premier League last season, with an aggregate score of 7-2.

It is hoped that Arsenal would be able to go toe-to-toe with the reigning Premier League champions for their first win against their opponent since 2020, having bolstered their squad this summer with the impressive signings of Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice.
