Arsenal beat Everton, lose Premier League title

Arsenal agonisingly missed out on a first Premier League title since 2004 despite beating Everton as the league table showed; Manchester City's win over West Ham United rendered the victory ineffective.

The Gunners required a win against the Toffees and hoped City would fail to win against West Ham as they bid farewell to manager David Moyes.

Before the last games of the season, the Gunners were on a great run of form, winning 16 of their 18 league matches but the winning run of Manchester City also seemed never in danger of being halted.

Everton took the lead through Idriss Gauye whose free kick was deflected into the Arsenal net by Declan Rice. Takehiro Tomiyasu equalised for Mikel Arteta's side at the edge of the penalty box three minutes later.

The game descended into a physical one from the Everton perspective which cost Arsenal central defender, Gabriel Melgahuess who was subbed off with a shoulder injury.

Kai Havertz grabbed a late goal for the north London giants after Gabriel Jesus' blistering run and Martin Ordegaard's through pass found the German.

However, Phil Foden's two goals in Manchester City's 3-1 win ultimately swung the title to City's favour.
