Arsenal hold Manchester City to thrilling goalless draw at E

Arsenal came unscathed in Sunday evening's top Premier League clash against Manchester City as the title contenders played out a scoreless draw at the Etihad, reports Allnews.ng.

Heading into the game, Arsenal needed to keep up to pace as Liverpool had scraped a 2-1 win over Brighton oves and Albion in the earlier game on Sunday to lead the table with 67 points.

Mikel Arteta achieved that feat and are only the third team to keep two clean sheets against Pep Guardiola's Man City in the same season following their 1-0 win in the reverse leg at the Emirates stadium last year. Only Man Utd in 2020/21 and Crystal Palace in 2021/22 have done the same

Former City forward Gabriel Jesus was the first player from either side to have an opportunity to score but his low shot was narrowly off target.

City dominated possession but Arsenal were keeping their shape and defending in their numbers against the league champions and Nathan Ake went close to putting Pep Gauadiola's men ahead in the first half but the ball bobbled kindly in font of David Raya in goal for the Gunners.

The Spaniard by virtue of keeping a clean sheet became the first goalkeper to keep 10 clean sheets in the Premier League this season. The shot-stopper on loan from Brentford, is also the first opposition 'keeper to keep a Premier League clean sheet against Man City at the Etihad since Vicente Guaita in October 2021.

Pep Guardioa introduced the duo of Jack Grealish and Phillipe Doku in the second half with the clear intention to run the Arsenal defence ragged.

The visitors held on for a stalemate albeit are still searching for their first win at the Etihad since January 2015.
