Arsenal Must Improve At Newcastle, Says Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says his side must improve at Newcastle following the club's exit from the Carabao Cup in midweek.

The Gunners lost 3-1 to West Ham in the fourth round of the competition and continued their 30-year wait to win the League Cup.

Arteta took responsibility for his side's defeat, saying he's disappointed with himself.

Speaking before Saturday's Premier League trip to Newcastle, the Spaniard said: "Every time you have a defeat it takes a few days to get over, but the full focus is now on Newcastle.

"There's things we need to do a lot better, how we competed and especially the goals. I don't think the scoreline reflects the game at all, but we should have done much better."

Arteta also acknowledged that St James' Park, the home of the Magpies, is one of the toughest places to go thanks to manager Eddie Howe, who has transformed the club, the environment and the atmosphere.

"It's one of the toughest places to go and win, we know that - we've done it," he added.

"It's nothing new to it, we know what to expect. It's very clear what their strengths are, what the opportunities are for us too.

"The next game is the next game, we have to be focused, and our full energy is on beating Newcastle."
