Arsenal slip past Brentford, lead Premier League table

Arsenal survived the scare of Brentford with a narrow 2-1 win on Saturday evening and are temporarily on top of the Premier League table at least until Sunday evening when Manchester City take on Liverpool in the biggest Premier League game of the weekend

The Gunners took the lead through Declan Rice who rose highest to head home a delicious cross from Ben White.

White was also on hand to provide a similar assist for Kai Havertz to score the second goal against the Bees who pulled one goal back through Yoane Wissa after a silly Aaron Ramsdale error.

Hævert had missed a golden chance to make it 2-2 but his dink over the Brentford keeper went agonizingly wide.

The north London side, now on 64 points, held on to win 2-1 and would hope that Sunday's huge clash between Liverpool and Manchester City end in a 'favourable' draw.

Saturday's hard-fought win makes it the eighth consecutive Premier League win for Mikel Arteta’s side who will face Porto in the return leg of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday before a trip to the Etihad to play against Manchester City.
