Arsenal survive Tottenham Hotspur scare, go four points clea

Premier League leaders Arsenal beat north London rivals Tottentam Hotspur 3-2 to go four points clear of Manchester City who are playing against Nottingham Forest in the 4.30pm fixture at the Forest Ground on Sunday, reports Allnew.ng.

The Gunners were leadng 3-0 and were on the cusp of a clean sheet but a goalkeeping gaffe by David Raya gifted Spurs a goal while Hueng-min Son added a second from the penalty spot.

Arsenal went in front with 15 minutes played when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg glanced Bukayo Saka's corner into his own net under the challenge of Takehero Tomiyasu.

The Anglo-Nigerian then made it 2-0 in the 27th minute when he finished off a sweeping counter attack inside the Spurs penalty area.

The Lillywhites saw defender Micky van de Ven's goal ruled out for offside which drew the ire of the home fans who felt the Saka goal should not have stood as Dejan Kulusevski was supposedly fouled in the buildup.

Kai Havertz headed in from another corner kick to end the first half in bouyant mood.

However, Raya ensured there would be no clean sheet when his sloppy clearance was pounced on by Christian Romero who found the bottom left corner with a simple finish.

The inability to keep the clean sheet at Tottenham Hotspur stadium means that Arsenal could not become the third club in Premier League history to keep seven consecutive clean sheets on away grounds.

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi was the last player to score against Mikel Arteta's men side in an away game when the London side faced Nottingham Forest last year.

Chelsea and Manchester United were the last teams to keep seven clean sheets in the Premier League in the 2008/2009 seasons.
