Aruna Quadri Pips Assar Wins ITTF African Championship Title

Aruna Quadri has won the singles trophy of the International Table Tennis Federation African Championship, beating Omar Assar of Egypt in the final on Friday in Algeria.

Aruna recovered from two sets down to win his second title 4-3.

It was sweet revenge for Aruna, who lost in the final to Assar 4-1 in Cameroon.

Assar won the first two sets 11-8, 11-9.

Aruna bounced back to win the third set 11-8 he, however, lost the fourth set 11-7.

The 34-year-old won the last three sets to reclaim the ITTF title.

The victorious Aruna said he was focused and gave his all to win the tournament.

“I think I gave my all, and even when I was down, I did not give up.

"I think I just stayed focused, and this worked out for me, and I am happy that my efforts in Algiers paid off for me,” he said.

Aruna Quadri's ranking is expected to improve after winning the 2022 ITTF African Championship.

He is currently ranked 15th in the World with 1,565 points.
