The Federal Polytechnic Kazaure, Jigawa has stopped all academic activities for the next two weeks in line with the two-week strike announced by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) last week.
Daily Post reports that the Chairman of the Chapter, Dr. Abdul'azeeez Ibrahim Badaru made this announcement in a press statement.
ASUP had said it would go on strike for two weeks due to the failure of the Federal Government to meet its demands.
Badaru added that the development is in line with the National Executive Council (NEC) directives, calling on stakeholders and the public to join hands with the union in ensuring the government meets its demands.
He further asked students and parents to be patient with the union.
ASUP had stated its demands to include non-release of the approved revitalisation fund for the sector, approved N15bn, yet to be released 11 months after approval, non-deployment of approved salary structures, poor governance structure as well as other issues affecting standards, particularly in state-owned Polytechnics.
