ASUU: Consider Students, Call Off Strike, Buhari Appeals To

President Mohammadu Buhari has pleaded with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the prolonged strike, urging that the union considers the affected students.

President Buhari made this plea on Thursday at the 19th National Productivity Day Celebration and Conferment of National Productivity Order of Merit Award, which was held at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.

The appeal was contained in a statement titled, ‘At National Productivity Day Awards, President Buhari appeals to ASUU to call off strike’ by the President's spokesman, Femi Adesina.

He requested that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) exercises patience with the government as the latter tries to find a solution to the crisis.

The President said he had on February 1 ordered His Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, and the Ministers of Education and Labour and Employment, Adamu Adamu and Chris Ngige, respectively, to meet the demands of the union.

ASUU had on Monday extended its rollover strike which began in February 2022 by 12 weeks due to the failure of the federal government to fulfill the 2009 agreement made with the union.
