The Ekiti State University (EKSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ) has reacted to the unpaid salaries by the state government.
The chapter's reaction to the issue was made known in a statement released after its congress meeting at the university on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
Ekiti State Government under former Governor Kayode Fayemi stopped paying the lecturers' subvention after they joined the strike by the national body, ASUU.
The released statement signed by the chapter's Chairman, Dr Kayode Arogundade, centred on the government's failure to pay the university subvention for seven months and outstanding wages since the commencement of the prolonged strike.
The statement signed by Arogundade read in part:
“i. Henceforth, our members are at liberty of coming to campus for lectures only and when it is financially convenient for them, until commitments of administration and government to our members’ welfare improve
"ii. In addition, to “i” above, all statutory meetings stand suspended until further notice.
"iii. Without prejudice to “i” and “ii” above, exception shall be given to A&PC meeting and any other meeting(s) and that may be considered important by the unions’ Executive, on behalf of Congress, subject to application for such exception by the Vice Chancellor.”
Following the suspension of the ASUU strike, EKSU resumed academic activities on October 17
