ASUU: EX AAUA VC Gives Only Way To Curb Strikes

Prof. Dennis Agbonlahor, a former Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma has given the only way to put an end to the incessant ASUU strike.

The ex VC, on Wednesday, said having an educator as a minister of the country is the only way to curb the strikes.

Agbonlahor said only a person familiar with the challenges in the education sector can deploy the political means to address them.

He further said if academics keep reducing their importance in politics, they would be unable to solve the problems in the education sector.

“There are a lot of academics in government, but unfortunately once you are part of the government, you cannot criticise it.

“If you try that, politicians will ensure you are not reappointed or get reelected. So it is only independent ones that can talk.

“If Nigeria tries professors as president and vice president, that may change the situation. Perhaps, he would want to act what he preaches,” he explained.

The former don however noted that some persons in the education sector who are also in government have been pushing for a change but are been shunned by others.
