Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has decried the prolonged industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Okowa expressed this in Asaba at the 28th edition of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association, Asaba Chapter Annual Lecture.
According to the Governor, the consistent strikes by the ASUU have been a burden to consecutive governments in Nigeria.
He, therefore, called for an intelligent reflection on the reasons for the strikes and feasible solutions.
“Any university aspiring to the status of being world-class must cultivate a robust relationship with its alumni.
“The lingering ASUU strike has almost become an albatross on every successive government’s neck and therefore calls for incisive introspection into the causes and possible solutions,” he expressed.
Okowa commended the selection of the theme for the year, ‘Revitalising University Education’, maintaining that it was appropriate at the time education in the country was experiencing difficulty.
