ASUU: If Nothing Changes, Strike Will Continue, Says Zik Var

Dr. Steve Ufoaroh, Chairman ASUU-NAU, has spoken on the shutdown of the university and the establishment of a monitoring team to ensure the enforcement of the action.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ufoaroh said academic programmes, lectures, and practicals were being put on hold in submission to the one-month warning strike.

“Any academic programme that involves our members has been suspended and you know it is a rolling strike. At the end of the one-month warning strike, if nothing changes, it will continue,” he explained.

Concerning the school hostels, the varsity Don advised that the management of the institution should dismiss the students from the hostels for security reasons.

Also speaking, the Vice President, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Students Union, Ifunaya Okoye pointed out that the matriculation of the new intakes and the final year students’ projects are being affected by the strike action.

As reported by NAN,  lectures have been put on hold, classes, and offices locked, and all academic activities suspended. Nevertheless, school hostels are still open as students living on campus are still occupying them.

The Student Union Administrator further expressed their discomfort as regards the strike but called on the Federal Government to do the needful to avoid delaying the students and encouraging them to commit crimes as a result of idleness.
