ASUU: NGO Commends VCs, Pro-Chancellors For Intervention In

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the African Youth Assembly for Peace (AYAP) has lauded the Vice-Chancellors and Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities for intervening in the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, the Head of Communications, Abdul-Aziz Yusuf said the intervention of the pro and vice chancellors would add momentum to the negotiation between ASUU and the federal government.

“It is worthy to note that the involvement of Pro-Chancellors/Chairmen of Council and Vice-Chancellors in the ongoing negotiation with ASUU is commendable.

“I believe this will give more impetus to the ongoing negotiation process, especially as it now involves the top hierarchy in the University System,” he said.

Yusuf further appealed to the government to meet all resolutions reached within the next two weeks given during the negotiation.

On the 'no work no pay' policy, the Communication Head pleaded with the government n to tamper justice with mercy.

He maintained that doing so would promote industrial harmony among members of university-based unions such as  SSANU, NASU and NAAT.

Yusuf also advised the new committee to quicken its negotiation to meet up with the deadline for the sake of the students.
