As planned, members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have taken to the streets of Lagos to protest the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in solidarity with the union.
The congress is leveraging the protest which is currently taking place in Ikeja, the Lagos State capital to address other issues affecting the country.
From the inscriptions on the placards carried by the protesters, issues including hunger, petroleum scarcity, and poverty among others are being addressed.
The protesters were seen carrying placards bearing "Stop importation of petrol, refine the refineries", "Nigeria at 60 years of independence, more hunger in the land", and “Reduce the cost of governance now, save the masses from poverty and hunger” among others.
AllNews Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) announced a two-day protest in solidarity with the members of ASUU over the prolonged strike.
The congress had since received the support of Nigerian students, lecturers, and other organisations who have promised to take part in the protest.
