The management of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU) has been sued by the Edo State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the selective payments of January and February 2022 salaries of workers.
In the suit marked NICN/BEN/04/2022, dated June 22, 2022, the ASUU chapter accused management of contempt of court orders of February 2 and May 17, 2022, mandating the payment of January and February 2022 salaries of some ASUU members displeased with the biometric verification exercise.
Alongside ASUU, the plaintiffs were the Chairman, ASUU, AAU Ekpoma chapter, Dr Cyril Onogbosele, and the Assistant Secretary, Dr William Odion, against six defendants in the suit including the acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Asomwan Adagbonyin, and the acting Registrar, Ambrose Odiase.
The AAU branch of the union and the management of the institution clashed recently over the suspension of activities by the former.
The government of Edo State and its State Executive Council met on June 8, 2022, and suspended all activities of the union across all state institutions of higher learning, which ASUU immediately contested.
