ASUU: Union Seeks FG's Transparency To End Strike

In the ongoing deadlock between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government, the union has advised the latter to be transparent in its dealings if it wants the strike to be called off.

The National President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke while speaking on Channels Television's Politics said one condition on which the strike can be called off is if the government discloses the amount approved for revitalisation, its location and when it will be released.

“Government should tell us and Nigerians – the money that has been alleged to have been approved for revitalisation – how much is it and where is it lodged? When will it be released?” he requested.

Osodeke further said the government must also reveal its stance on the implementation of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), the payment platform proposed by the striking lecturers to replace the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS).

“Three, have they accepted the agreement we reached with their panel? They should come and tell us this, and not go to the press,” Osodeke added.

“Strike is a symptom of a problem. Any day you sort out that problem, you will not have strike.”

ASUU has been on strike for over six months to drive home its demands from the Federal Government including the payment of revitalisation funds and the implementation of UTAS as the union's payment platform.
