ASUU: Union To Suspend Eight-Month Strike Conditionally

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has agreed to suspend its eight-month-old strike conditionally.

This was disclosed by a member of the union's National Executive Committee who spoke to The Punch in the early hours of Friday.

The decision to suspend this strike was taken at the end of the NEC meeting which was held on Thursday at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja after its chapter met to vote on the ruling by the Court of Appeal last Friday.

The NEC which comprises the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive attended the meeting which started on Thursday and lasted till Friday morning.

The source said, “Yes, it has been called off”.

Speaking further, the NEC source added  “The president will release an official circular in the morning."

ASUU embarked on strike on February 14, 2022, due to the failure of the federal government to meet its demands as agreed.

The Appellate Court ordered the striking lecturers to resume work before their appeal can be considered.
