ASUU: Warning Strike Ends, Union Threatens Indefinite Action

ASUU: Warning Strike Ends, Union Threatens Indefinite Action

As the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike ends today, May 9, the union has threatened to embark on an indefinite industrial action.

ASUU disclosed this on Sunday during the ongoing National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

The union, at the meeting, concluded that the Federal Government has been unserious with its demands, stating that it would give the general public the outcome of the meeting.

AllNews Nigeria reports that ASUU embarked on a warning strike in February, which was later extended by eight weeks to emphasise its demands stated in the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement which the Federal Government was yet to fulfill.

Although Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige in a statement on Friday said the Federal Government would meet with ASUU on Monday, the National President of the union, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke said he had not received an invitation from the government as of Sunday.
