At Least 22 Found Dead In South African Nightclub

At least 22 people have been found dead at a nightclub in South Africa’s city of East London on Sunday.

Police have launched investigation into the deaths of the 22 patrons found inside the nightclub, provincial health officials have said.

Siyanda Manana, a spokesperson for the Eastern Cape provincial health department said the bodies will be transported to state mortuaries where relatives are expected to help identify both male and female victims.

Reuters news agency reports forensic personnel saying; "We are going to immediately be embarking on autopsies so we can know the probable cause of death."

It added the circumstances under which they died are under investigation, as it was too early to determine the cause of the deaths.

The Eastern Cape provincial community and safety department ruled out a stampede as cause of the deaths.
