Atiku Abubakar's Company, Gotel, Sacks 46 Employees On Worke

 

Gotel Communication, one of the firms owned by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly sacked forty-six workers, joining the list of companies downsizing amidst the Coronavirus outbreak.

It was disclosed that Gotel Communication had proceeded to sack its workers on Friday, a day meant for the celebration of workers internationally. In the sack letter published by Sahara Reporters, the reason for the termination of appointment wasn't disclosed.

The television and radio media outfit, which operates in Yola, Adamawa State, simply stated that, "The management has decided to discontinue your services with immediate effect." 

Adding that, "Consequently, please be informed that your entitlements including stipend lieu of the notice will be computed and posted into your account with immediate effect." the letter signed by the General Manager, Mohammed El-Yakub, read in parts.

Breach of contract allegation

Meanwhile, the Gotel Communications had been accused by expatriate of breaching the terms of their contracts, leading to a lawsuit threat against Gotel. It was also stated that the media organisation didn't pay salaries and entitlements to the expatriate for several months.

Aside from Gotel Communications, Atiku Abubakar also own Intels, Prodeco and American University of Nigeria (AUN).

Allnews had previously reported that Access Bank has announced plan to downsize its workforce, citing the negative impact of COVID-19 on the lender's operation. The aviation industry had also been hit by the pandemic, forcing airline operators and travel agencies to shut down operations.
