Atiku's Former Aide Wins SDP Governorship Primaries In Adama

Dr Umar Ardo

The former political adviser to Atiku Abubakar, Dr Umar Ardo, has won the governorship primary election for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa State.

Ardo won with 678 votes from delegates across the 226 wards in the state.

This was announced by the chairman of the SDP primary election committee, Mustapha Jibrilla Aliyu in Yola.

Aliyu said, “The sole aspirant, Dr Umar Ardo, was elected as the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 governorship election through affirmation by the 678 delegates from all the 226 wards across the state.”

Ardo had been an aggrieved member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), often complaining of lack of internal democracy in the party.

He had also taken the party to court 11 times over the allegation before his defection.

Ardo became the Governorship flag bearer of the SDP after his defection from the PDP.
