Atiq Ahmed: Former Indian MP Shot Dead On Live TV

Atiq Ahmed, a former member of parliament and his brother have been shot dead by gunmen posing as journalists on live TV.

According to Indian authorities, the incident occurred when the duo were being taken in handcuffs to the hospital by the police.

61-year-old Ahtiq Ahmed who has been in prison since 2019 after he was convicted of kidnapping was responding to questions from reporters late on Saturday when he and his brother were shot at close range.

“The attackers have been held and are being questioned,” police official Prashant Kumar shared.

The assailants were seen shouting Hindu slogans after the brazen attack which took place in the northern city of Prayagraj.

Ahmed and his brother were deeply involved in India’s criminal underworld and the former was facing over 100 cases.

It was revealed that the attackers are petty criminals and one of them was spotted carrying a television camera and another a microphone with the logo of a television channel.
