Attahiru: National Flag To Fly Half-Mast — FG

The federal government has directed public buildings and facilities to fly the National Flag half-mast in honor of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, and other military officers.

The flag will fly half-mast from Monday to Wednesday, according to a statement.

The statement issued in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha said that President Muhammad Buhari gave the directive.

The statement said that the directive is to honor Attahiru and the other 10 senior military officers who lost their lives in the plane crash on May 21.

Boss said that the president had similarly approved May 24 as a work-free day for members of the Armed Forces.

The 25th Chief of Army Staff died in a plane crash in Kaduna at about 6:00 PM on Friday, May 21, 2021.

The military Beachcraft 350 carrying him went down at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday evening, claiming the life of top military officials and other passengers.

Recall that Attahiru was among the Service Chiefs appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021.
