Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Dragon Ball Celebration

Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has shed light on the reason behind his dragon ball celebration after breaking two records in Barcelona's 4-0 demolition of Real Madrid on Sunday.

The former Arsenal striker scored twice and also got an assist as Barca dominated El Clasico and became the first team to beat Los Blancos at the Bernabeu in La Liga this season.

One of his celebrations was slightly out of the ordinary, as he went over to the crowd and received a small golden ball before doing the 'Super Saiyan' gesture from the animated television series Dragon Ball Z.

'It was a ball from Dragon Ball,' Aubameyang said after the game. 'With it you can make a wish. I wanted to win and score a goal for my grandparents, who are gone. A friend of mine gave it to me. I thought about it today.'

The 32-year-old is such a fan of the TV show that he also has a Dragon Ball Z tattoo on his leg.

There were even more reasons why it was a special night for Aubameyang, as he broke two records and equalled another.

In getting two goals and an assist, he became the first player to be directly involved in three goals in their El Clasico debut in the 21st century.

Meanwhile, he became the first player to score in five successive appearances against Real Madrid in the 21st century, having netted five goals in his four previous matches against Los Blancos while at Borussia Dortmund.

Aubameyang has now recorded seven goals in seven La Liga appearances since joining Barca last month, which is the joint-fewest appearances needed to reach that tally in the Spanish top-flight since the turn of the millennium.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Barcelona in 2009 and Andre Silva for Sevilla in 2018 also scored seven goals in their first seven La Liga games.
