Daniel Dae Kim has been chosen to portray the character of Fire Lord Ozai in the Netflix live-action series, Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The upcoming production is based on the critically-acclaimed animated series of the same name which aired its first episode on Nickelodeon on February 21, 2005.
According to Variety, Daniel Dae Kim (Raya and the Last Dragon) will breathe life to the character of Fire Lord Ozai, a man described as "the ruthlessly-driven leader of the Fire Nation who demands everyone live up to his impossible standards, especially his teen son, Prince Zuko."
The description adds that Ozai is driven to conquer and unite the world under the firebender rule and that he believes it is his destiny to finish a war started by his ancestors.

Kim joins other actors like Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, and Dallas Liu. Cormier will star as Aang, Kiawentiio will portray Katara, and Ousley will act as Sokka, with Liu will play Zuko.
Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series spawned a spin-off show, The Legend of Korra, and a live-action film, The Last Airbender. The former was critically lauded while the latter was panned by critics.
The forthcoming live-action series will premiere on Netflix and Albert Kim serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer of the show.
As of the time of this writing, no release date has been revealed.
