Avoid Conducts That Could Bring Us Disrepute - Osun Governme

Ademola Adeleke

The Osun State Government has warned its revenue generation agents to always guard against any act that could bring the state government to disrepute.

The Coordinating Director, Ministry of Environment and Sanitation, Oladele Olawuni gave the warning while addressing consultants for revenue generation at the Ministry over the breached directive and standard practice of payment of revenue into government account through codes generated for them.

He said the meeting was called so as to give a stern warning to some of the consultants who gave a private account to members of the public to pay into instead of using codes generated by the Ministry.

Olawuni also said that the conduct of some of the government consultants on revenue generation was unethical.

He also frowned at the use of thugs by some of the consultants to collect taxes, dues and levies thereby creating fears in the minds of residents.

While condemning the diversion of public funds into private bank account as a way of assisting members of the public, Olawuni warned all consultants to desist from giving additional bank account aside the codes generated for them through the Ministry.

The Coordinating Director noted that all consultants will be re-screened with a view to determining their capacity in terms of personnel and logistics.

He therefore called for a synergy between the revenue collectors and the State Government to boost the IGR of the State.

In their seperate remarks at the strategic meeting, some of the consultants called on the Ministry of Environment and Sanitation as well as the State Government to give them Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to spell out their terms of engagement to them in order to perform better on the field.

They stressed the need for the State Government to encourage them with stipends to ease their work and enable them build on their efficiency.

Among other things, they also called on the Government to spell out their job specifications as well as enforcement officers to ensure compliance by the people.

Responding, Olawuni said the state Government will look into their requests and provide them with enabling working environment and for them to be good ambassadors of the Ministry.
