Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has surpassed a Premier League record held by Manchester City striker Erling Haaland despite missing 12 league games due to an injury setback.

According to statistics from Sky Sports, the Nigerian who was dropped by head coach Jose Peseiro for Nigeria's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Cote d'Ivoire for fitness reasons, has a remarkable 28.6% conversation rate.

That beats the record held by Haaland who has a conversion rate of 26.1% and with 52 goals to boot in his time so far at the Premier League champions.

Awoniyi's 2022/2023 season was limited but aside from Haaland, he also beats the conversion rates of other Premier League star strikers like Hee-Chan Hwang (24.1%), Callum Wilson (24%), Diogo Jota (22.5%), and Ivan Toney (21.4%).

Since his return to full fitness, the former youth international has notched up two goals in five league appearances and has scored 16 goals in his Nottingham Forest career.

High-flying Aston Villa are Nottingham Forest's next Premier League opponents as the Nigerian looks to increase his tally in the season.
