Ayra Starr apologises after backlash for disrespecting Sunny

Grammy nominee Ayra Starr has apologised to Nigerian music legend King Sunny Ade after she disrespected him at an event.

The 'Sabi' crooner came under fire on social media after a viral video showed she greeted the music legend with a handshake during the event.

However, reacting to the backlash in a tweet on her official X (formerly Twitter) page, Ayra Starr explained what transpired and apologised to Sunny Ade.

The singer who described herself as a "proper Yoruba girl" stated she is not the type to be disrespectful.

She further revealed that she went back to greet Sunny Ade and others properly.

Ayra Starr wrote: “I’m so sorry, I had just walked in and all the lights and nerves did not let me see but I came back to greet everyone properly.

I have never been that girl to be disrespectful, I’m a proper Yoruba girl and the video didn’t start until after I had greeted Burna’s mom! I’m very sorry to the legend, uncle and King Sunny Ade.”
