Ballon d’ Or 2022: Benzema Remains Modest After UCL Glory

French forward Karim Benzema remains modest about being a major contender for the Ballon d'Or 2022 after Real Madrid claimed a record-extending 14th Champions League title.

Speaking to Canal Plus (via France24) after the Champions League final in Paris, the veteran forward was quoted as saying: “Of course. Now I will join up with the national team, but I don’t think I can do much more with my club.

“We will see what happens, but in any case, I am proud of what I have done.”

The France international finished the Champions League campaign as the top goalscorer with 15 goals.

Aside from the goals in the Champions League, Benzema is also La Liga's top scorer with 27 goals taking his total season tally to 42 goals in club competition.

Taking into consideration that he was part of the French squad that won the second edition of the UEFA Nations League with the former Lyon striker returning to Didier Deschamps' team.
