Banditry: Masari Chews Own Finger, Says Government, Security Agencies Failed

Banditry: Masari Chews Own Finger, Says Government, Security

Governor Bello Masari | Bandits

The governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari has chewed his own finger, saying the government and security agencies have failed in securing Nigerians.

Masari made the revelation in an interview with BBC Hausa.

Katsina State is one of the North-Western states worst hit by activities of bandits..

Masari lamented over the increasing issues of insecurity in the country, especially in the North West where he comes from.

“Security officials and we the government are who the people rely on to protect them, and we have failed in doing so."

Masari further expressed sadness over how security operatives have been killed on a daily basis in the course of their constitutional duties.

"Not up to two weeks ago, a commissioner of police lost his life, an inspector lost his life, soldiers have been killed, officers have lost their lives in their efforts to tackle insecurity."

He added that it was alarming how the insecurity has been growing not only in the country but crossing the country's boundaries.

“Insecurity has not just affected Katsina State only, it has affected almost every state in Nigeria and also some of our neighbours like Niger, Mali are also battling this issue.”

While expressing optimism to overcome the security challenges, he said Nigeria will be safe before the Buhari-led administration hands over to another government.

He further said that despite the current situation, “There has been improvement unlike before, but we haven’t reached where we want to and we are praying to God."
