Bandits storm Ogun community, kidnap two Chinese nationals

Bandits storm Ogun community, kidnap two Chinese nationals

According to reports, two Chinese nationals, Chen Wenguang and Liang Ding, were abducted in Ogun State's Kémta/Abule-Owu region along Onigbedu Road.

Allnews.ng gathered that the abduction happened on Sunday around 1:45 PM when the victims left their place of employment to meet with friends.

According to a police source who spoke to The PUNCH on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to discuss publicly, Wenguang and Ding were connected to the nearby Good One Carton Company.

“Wenguang and Ding left the company on their own, without notifying security, including the police and military assigned to the company, nor did they inform the company itself.

“They mentioned to a few people that they were heading to Kémta Village, about a kilometre away from the company, to visit some friends,” the individual reportedly noted.

Omolola Odutola, a spokesperson for the state command, confirmed the incident and informed reporters on Monday that the kidnappers had gotten in touch with the business to demand a ransom to free them.

She said, “The company’s security supervisor reported that one of the expatriates called to inform him that Wenguang and Ding had been kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding money in exchange for their release.

“Our operatives in the Ewekoro Division, with the assistance of local vigilantes, military personnel from the Social Orientation and Safety Corps, local hunters, and other security groups, thoroughly searched the entire Kémta Village forest for the duo but were unable to find them.”

She said that there was still work being done to help get the two people released.

Recall that in early May 2024, there were reports of the kidnapping of three Indian nationals along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In the same vein, gunmen kidnapped two Chinese nationals, while five security personel were killed, following the invasion of a mining site in Zango City, the outskirts of Lokoja, Kogi State capital.

The gunmen in large numbers had a field day when they stormed a mining site in Zango City and killed five persons, made up of three vigilante members and two staff of the mining site before they abducted two Chinese citizens.

Locals said the unfortunate attack occurred in the evening at about 5 pm and lasted for about 45 minutes when sounds of sporadic gunshots emanated from the hilly range behind Al Azhar International School.

They said the suspected gunmen were about 20, with many of them bearded.

It was gathered that while the audible gunshots from the mountain were unrelenting, people hurriedly closed their shops, and panic-stricken locals abandoned their homes to take cover in other places considered safe.
