Ronald Araujo Renews Contract

Barcelona Uruguay centre-back Ronald Araujo has decided to undergo surgery for the injury in his adductor longus tendon avulsion during international duty and could miss the World Cup later in November 2022.

Barca hierarchy have been stunned with news of injuries during the break as several important players including new signing Jules Kounde has sustained an injury.

Ousmane Dembele who returned to the France national team also had a knock but was able to shake it off and was available during 2-0 loss to Denmark but remained an unuse sub.

Dutch players Memphis Depay and Frenkie De Jong were reported to be injured facing up to 2 weeks on the sidelines with Depay facing over a month out.

Araujo who has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in Barca and by extension in La Liga will be the major loss for team as they would be facing Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich in October.

According to the statement by the club, "Ronald Araujo will undergo surgery on Wednesday for the adductor longus tendon avulsion he has in his right thigh. The operation will be carried out by Dr. Lasse Lempainen, under the supervision of the Club’s medical staff, in Turku, Finland."

The Blaugrana have only conceded 3 goals in all competitions this season, remain unbeaten in La Liga suffering one loss in Champions League.

October will be a crucial time in the season for them as they face fixtures congestion with depth up front the backline might be thing and they would have to count on Veterans Pique and Alba or new signings Hector Bellerin and Marcus Alonso to fill in the gaps.
