The Spanish wing-back Alba analysed the Clasico on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid in an interview with TVE.
“It’s the game of the year and the intention is to go there to keep fighting for this league,” said Alba. “Going to the Clasico is going to a game against a direct opponent and it will make what’s left of the league season.
“We’ve left a lot of points behind and there’s the distance to those above us, but the sensations are now better. I see the team and the fans motivated. Despite the difficulty that we’re having as a team and club, the sensations are very positive.”
Alba believes Xavi has come in and done a good job.
“I knew him having been Spain and Barca team-mates and his arrival was extraordinary for me and the dressing room. He’s a coach who gives you a lot of confidence. He knows this place, the good and the bad, and we are going well.”
At 33, Alba is reaching the final years of his career and he says the Qatar 2022 World Cup will be his last. “It will be my last World Cup. I’m arriving at a very good moment and hoping for the coach’s list to try and win another World Cup.”
