Barca To Retain Ronald Koeman As Head Coach

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman will remain at the club next season after agreeing to extend his contract, president Joan Laporta said on Thursday.

Koeman, who was appointed last August by Laporta's predecessor Josep Maria Bartomeu, led Barca to victory in the Copa del Rey in his first season in charge. But the Catalans finished a disappointing third in LaLiga, prompting speculation the club were looking for a replacement.

After a meeting held in May between Barcelona's board and Ronald Koeman's agent, Rob Jansen, he said that "the feeling is positive".

"He could even stay beyond 2021-2022 season but we are not this far yet, more conversation to follow," he told Telegraaf.

It is now a done deal as the Catalonia president confirm that the former Barcelona legend will stay on at least for yet another season as the club's head coach.

After the confirmation on Thursday, it seems Memphis Depay's deal will be fast-tracked and Barcelona could send their medical team to Netherland to work out the medical procedures.

It remains to be seen the reaction of Lionel Messi who is currently on International duty with Argentina if he would renew his contract or will be leaving for free.
