Barcelona vs Espanyol 1-0: Suarez Lone Strike Wins Catalonia

The Catalonia derby ended with 1-0 scoreline with Luis Suarez goal sending the Espanyol into relegation and putting Barcelona 1 point behind Real Madrid in the La Liga table

Barcelona played their Catalonia counterpart at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night on matchday 35, it was a battle of survival and trophy hunger but with Quique Setien fielding his top guns like Lionel Messi, newly assured Griezmann and Luis Suarez forming the MSG trident the Espanyol was in a hell of a trouble.

The match took some wist when Ansu Fati came on for Semedo in the opening minutes of the 2nd half and Sergio Roberto dropping back to the right-back, two minutes later the 17-year-old was shown a red card after previously given a yellow but VAR changed it into a red card.

Pressure mounted on the Blaugrana, in another three minutes, Pol Lozano was also shown a red card also changed by VAR after previously given a yellow.

The game was balanced after that, Barcelona got the possession back, moved the ball to the left wing by Rakitic, sent in a pass for Griezmann with a back hell pass to Messi, the Argentine sent a telepathic pass to Suarez which leaves the striker alone with the keeper. He sent in a low ball to beat Diego Lopez. A clinical finish from the Barcelona No. 9

The game was 212th Catalonia derbi or Derbi barceloni as it is called in Spain.

AllNews understands that the first match of the derby was played 7th April 1929 that is 91 years ago, the intriguing part is that the first meeting also ended on a 1-0 victory to the Blaugrana, and the Barcelona team then went ahead to win the La Liga that year.

We might have history repeat itself this year also with the La Liga giants trailing their eternal rivals Real Madrid.
