Bauchi Assembly elects new speaker, deputy

Bauchi State House of Assembly, Wednesday elected a new speaker, Hon Babayo Muhammad representing Hardawa state Constituency.

It also elected Hon. Ahmad Abdullahi as deputy speaker (Dass state Constituency).

Allnews.ng learned that the new speaker and his deputy succeeded the former Speaker of the Assembly, Abubakar Y. Suleiman, and his Deputy, Jalimu Umar Dahiru, who were dismissed by an Abuja-based Court of Appeal.

The Court also ordered  for repeat elections in some polling units in the constituencies challenged by candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon Musa Nakwada, the House spokesperson representing Bogoro Constituency, confirmed the new situation. He noted that the election of the two main leaders was a collaborative choice of the members, which became necessary to fill the void left by the Court of Appeal's decisions.

He went on to say, "As lawmakers, we will continue to work within the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
