Bauchi Election Tribunal Resumes, Bala's Counsel Optimistic About Victory

Bauchi Election Tribunal Resumes, Bala's Counsel Optimistic

The Bauchi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has resumed hearing of the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its gubernatorial candidate in the state, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Rtd.).

The session resumed on Monday, with representatives of Governor Bala Mohammed, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC in attendance.

Speaking to Newsmen, Chief Chris Uche, the lead counsel representing Governor Bala and the PDP, expressed optimism about securing victory at the tribunal.

Uche stated that the 2023 governorship election in Bauchi State was conducted without any issues or irregularities, which strengthens their position.

"BVAS and IREF all worked in the last election in Bauchi State.

"We have thoroughly examined all the records, and there are no problems with the results whatsoever," he said.

After hearing from both sides, the tribunal adjourned the proceedings to May 31, 2023, for continued pre-hearing.

Uche also announced that they would file a petition to have the opposition parties' claims dismissed for lacking merit.

He noted confidence in the strength of their case and the validity of the election results.

The Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Ibrahim Mohammed Kashim, along with other high-ranking government officials, attended the tribunal proceedings.

Recall that the tribunal had its inaugural meeting last week Monday.

Speaking after the inaugural meeting, one of the counsels for Governor Bala and the PDP, Ben Ogbuchi, said the legal team was ready to defend the party and the governor-elect Bala.

"We are ready to defend the mandate given to Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed as the governor of Bauchi State by the people.

"As you can see, he was elected by the people of Bauchi State and we will stoutly defend the people’s mandate," he said.
