The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has approved a new service scheme for the Bauchi State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS).
The governor's approval was conveyed by the State's Head of Service, Yahuza Adamu Haruna.
According to Haruna, the new scheme of service was aimed at making the board more autonomous.
He added that the move would reposition the BIRS to generate more revenue for the state.
He disclosed that the governor's approval is expected to enable the revenue service to become more efficient and effective in its revenue-generating activities.
In a related development, the governor also approved the Open Government Policy, which will involve civil society organizations in the state to be part of governance to promote accountability and transparency.
The governor also approved the establishment of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) departments across all the twenty local government areas of the state.
The move was to ensure the provision of portable drinking water and a hygienic environment to reduce health crises.
The state's Commissioner of Housing and Environment, Hamisu Muazu Shira, also revealed that the governor has approved the construction of 2,500 affordable houses across the six emirate councils in the state.
He explained that the approved funding for the project was over N3 billion.
The governor further approved the purchase of 30 brand new vehicles for the state-owned Yankari Transport Company Ltd to improve their operations and generate more revenue.
The Head of Service noted that the recent developments were expected to have a significant impact on the economic growth and development of the state.
