The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man who disguised himself and assaulted his wife in the state.
The suspect identified as Tijjani Ahmadu Diye was arrested by detectives attached to the A Divisional Police Headquarters in the state.
The police explained that he was arrested for allegedly commiting "assault, causing grievous harm and attempt to commit an offence to-wit culpable homicide."
SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the command's spokesperson in a statement on Saturday said following preliminary investigation, the suspect admitted to the allegations against him.
Wakil said: "In his confession, the suspect raised false alarm that armed robbers entered their house.
"He quickly entered the bedroom met his wife and asked her to cover her head with a scarf.
"He moved out of the room, covered his face with a scarf, armed himself with a pestle came back to the bedroom, and started hitting her with the pestle.
"The suspect further confessed that he intended to neutralize her and take their television and sell it in order to raise money to furnish his shop."
The police spokesperson added that upon receiving the report, detectives from the command evacuated the victim to the state specialist hospital to receive medical attention.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad directed that the case be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He also ordered for a discreet investigation "to unravel more to the alleged occurrence, after which the suspect will be charged to Court for prosecution accordingly."
