Bauchi: Police neutralize 8 suspected bandits, rescue victim

The Bauchi State Police Command has neutralized eight suspected bandits and rescued three victims in a border community between Bauchi and Plateau States.

The intelligence-led operation in collaboration with hunters took place on April 22, 2024 following receipt of information on the activities of the suspects.

The command's spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, stating that the detectives deployed from Gumau, Tilde and Tuku divisions engaged the bandits and killed four.

He explained that two others who were captured before their death confessed to multiple kidnappings in Bauchi and Plateau States.

The suspects also confessed to the killing of a village head at Ruruwai village in Lame district of Toro LGA on March 17, 2024.

The police also rescued three victims taken captive on April 20, 2024 at Dokayel village.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad has commended the officers and men of the command for the successful operation.

The statement partly reads: "Based on the information provided by the late suspects, the detectives proceeded to the kidnappers' hideout to rescue three kidnapped victims from Dokayel village, who were taken captive on 20th April 2024. 

"In a subsequent firefight with the remaining accomplices guarding the hostages, four (4) kidnappers were also neutralized, and the three (3) captives were safely rescued without any ransom paid.

"The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad psc, commends the officers and men involved for their heroism and professionalism during the operation. He encourages them to continue their efforts in maintaining law and order. While the general public are urged to trust and cooperate with the police by providing useful information and remain vigilant.

"This successful operation is a testimony to the commitment and dedication of the Command to protect the lives and properties of the citizens/residents of the State. The Command reassured for continuing to work tirelessly to improve the security situation in the State."
