Bayer Leverkusen star tipped as Kroos' replacement at Real M

Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Toni Kroos at Real Madrid after the German superstar declared on Tuesday that he will retire from the game when the Euro tournament in his homeland ends this summer.

Wirtz was awarded the Player of the Season in the German Bundesliga after scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists in the new champions' imperious campaign. 

German publication SportBILD in a transfer report tipped the youngster as the one that the Real Madrid hierarchy will most likely go for as he has long years ahead of him. 

SportBILD however notes that the Spanish champions are already occupied with the acquisition of Kylian Mbappe, which should take a heavy toll on the club’s finances.

Kroos, the superstar that Wirtz is touted as a replacement, also arrived the Los Blancos from the German Bundesliga. 

The former U-17 World Cup silver medalist in 2007 when Nigeria won the cadet World Cup played for Bayer Leverkusen before moving to Bayern Munich.
