Bayern Munich Dressing Room Divided Over Nagelsmann Dismissal

Bayern Munich Dressing Room Divided Over Nagelsmann Dismissa

Julian Nagelsmann

Bayern Munich, the German football club, is reportedly experiencing a divide in its dressing room following the recent sacking of Julian Nagelsmann.

Despite Bayern being just one point off the top of the Bundesliga table and winning all eight of their Champions League matches this season, the 35-year-old was ruthlessly sacked on Friday.

Thomas Tuchel was then announced as the new manager of Bayern Munich one day later.

However, reports suggest that the decision to sack Nagelsmann could do more harm than good as there are 'pro and anti-Nagelsmann factions' that have formed inside the dressing room.

According to the German publication BILD, seven players wanted Nagelsmann out of the club, including Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich.

They reportedly disagreed with Nagelsmann's dismissal of goalkeeping coach Tony Tapalovic after almost 12 years at the club.

However, other key figures, such as Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, were said to have supported Nagelsmann.

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn stated that the decision was made after the quality of the squad had come to the fore less and less often.

Bayern Munich could be forced to pay an overall package worth €70m (£62m) after axing Nagelsmann, with figures estimating the head coach is earning approximately €9m (£8m) every year.

Nagelsmann was on a skiing trip in Austria with his girlfriend when he learned of his sacking.

The young coach claimed one Bundesliga title and two DFL Supercup trophies during his time in charge of the team.

Bayern Munich is still in the title race and the Champions League, having comprehensively beaten Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 on aggregate to advance to the quarter-finals this month.
