BEDC Identifies Infrastructural Decay As Major Challenge In

Deolu Ijose, the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, BEDC Electricity Plc, has identified infrastructural decay, energy theft and lack of fund as some of the problems preventing the company from functioning to its full capacity.

Ijose made this known at the headquarters of the company in Benin on Wednesday, adding that the firm spends N11 billion to buy electricity from the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Limited monthly, and distributes to customers in Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Ondo.

He noted that the consistent collapse of the national grid had led to erratic supply of electricity to customers, and that measures are in place to work with critical stakeholders in the power sector to enable the company serve the consumers better.

“Part of the major challenges confronting the BEDC are infrastructural decay, energy theft and lack of fund.

"These prevents us from the company from functioning to its full capacity.

“We are working with some of the key stakeholders in electricity sector like TCN, NDPHC, NEMSA, REA, NBET/MO, federal and state governments, meter manufacturers to improve on service delivery and ensure customers enjoy constant electricity supply.

"Most of the infrastructures such as transformer, feeder pillars and meter are outdated while the supply we get from the national grid is grossly inadequate to solve the problem of poor electricity supply.

“In the coming month, our customers in the four states will begin to experience improved power supply and longer hours of availability of power, resulting from these initiatives.

"At BEDC, our customers are our priority, and customer service will always be a major commitment.

"The firm is exploring different channels to ensure that our customers can give their feedback and concerns, regarding the services we provide.”
