Behind Bimbo Ademoye's Funny Facade: The Personal Journey Of

Still basking off the euphoria of her AMVCA win, boisterous Nollywood star Bimbo Ademoye, could best be described as a living paradox.

The 32-year-old actress known for playing humourous and captivating characters hides her insecurities well behind a convincing facade.

Even before clinching the Best Actress Award for her outing in the movie, Selina, she has flourished in the spotlight but few know that the screen diva struggles with agoraphobia (the fear of being in situations where escape seems impossible).

Like every other celebrity, Bimbo Ademoye’s story captures how her background and struggles shaped her into the woman she has become.

Below are major arcs from her enthralling tale:

Raised By A Single Parent

Born on February 4, 1991, Bimbo is one of Nigeria’s celebrities who is open about her relationship with her father.

Beautiful moments with her dad have been captured on her Instagram page with many fascinated by the bond the duo share.

In a recent Instagram post, the actress was seen driving to her father’s house in Ebute Metta to present her first AMVCA plaque.

However, behind the glitz and glamour, lies a woman whose upbringing was solely shouldered by a single parent.

Bimbo in an interview with Hawa Magaji on her first episode of ‘Who Is In My House’ show on YouTube revealed that her father was at some point “torn in the sense that he had to go work for his children and at the same time had to be there for his children.”

She further revealed that back in the day, her father would refuse club invitations from friends to take care of his kids.

According to the actress, her dad is the “father of the universe”.

Betrayed By Her Mother

As opposed to the public’s expectation, Bimbo Ademoye’s mother is alive and well.

The Nollywood star disclosed that her mother lives 15-20 minutes away from her.

During the interview on the said show, Bimbo revealed that her mother left her father at the very tender age of 2.

“My mum left when I was two. My first-ever betrayal came from my mother…

“I tried to build a relationship with her, right now, we have a relationship.

“I’m doing my duties as a child; paying for this, paying the rent and allowance, but that’s about what we have,” she revealed.

She further noted that she does not talk about her mother because she wants people to respect that.

Surrounded By A Dozen Siblings

Although Bimbo’s father has four biological children, the Selina actress has 12 siblings in total.

She revealed that her father adopted nine children because he loves children and is very generous.

“My father is an angel on earth,” she said.

When asked about her relationship with her siblings, she said: “I love my siblings to death. I am a very family-oriented person.”

Bogged Down By Carryovers

Bimbo had her tertiary education at Covenant University.

She stated that although her initial plan was to study Theatre Arts, she decided to go for Business Administration after reading an article where an actress studied the same course.

The actress has shared her struggles with academics on different platforms, with the memorable yet apt line, “I don’t know book.”

She revealed that she had about six carryovers in her first year at the university and had to join summer classes to make up for them and avoid having an extra year.

She further revealed that she turned down her father’s request to pursue a Master’s degree after she graduated with a second-class upper (2:2) in her pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in 2012.

Dodged Nollywood Sexual Harassment

Bimbo had her first shot at acting at the age of seven when she was one of the characters in a school play in primary school.

However, her first audition as a professional actress took place in 2013.

She noted that was accompanied by her father to the venue of the audition which lasted six hours.

Bimbo was said to have been in the cast of the short film Where Talent Lies in 2014 and a series in 2015.

In an interview with Inkblot Production, Bimbo said she became popular after starring in the movie Backup Wife produced by Uduak Isong in 2017.

The actress has in different interviews referred to Uduak Isong as her mother.

Bimbo shared that growing up under a woman in the industry prevented her from experiencing sexual harassment compared to her colleagues.

Bonded With Colleagues

It’s no news the bond Bimbo shares with Nollywood actresses Bisola Aiyeola and Adesua Etomi-Wellington.

According to her, Bisola is her soulmate who supports her even when she makes the wrong decisions, but is always there for her to fall back on.

“I don’t know what I did to deserve that girl,” she said during an interview with Hawa Magaji.

The sisterly relationship between the three actresses came to light after the release of the blockbuster Sugar Rush in 2019.

She further stated that the duo as well as actress Jemima Osunde make her happy, advising people to have people like them as friends.
