The re-election Of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has been described by the EU as lacking "any democratic legitimacy."
Lukashenko, who was re-installed into office, this week, claimed the presidency for the sixth term, after ruling for 26 years.
The European Union (EU) faulted the harried swearing-in ceremony that saw no fanfare with no foreign dignitaries present.
There was no broadcasting of the event both on state radio and television.
The EU said, “The so-called ‘inauguration’ and the new mandate claimed by Aleksander Lukashenko lack any democratic legitimacy.
“This `inauguration’ directly contradicts the will of large parts of the Belarusian population.
“It has been expressed in numerous, unprecedented and peaceful protests since the elections, and serves to only further deepen the political crisis in Belarus.”

Lukashenko's re-ascension to power has led to a mass protests, as Belarusians took to the streets to air their discontent with the long-serving ruler who has been described as an "authoritarian".
Opposition, Pavel Latushko, said of the swearing-in ceremony, "Where are the jubilant citizens? Where is the diplomatic corps?
"It is obvious that Alexander Lukashenko is exclusively the president of the Omon (riot police) and a handful of lying officials."
