Borussia Dortmund's midfielder Jude Bellingham has criticized the decision to allow Chelsea's Kai Havertz to retake his penalty in Tuesday's Champions League match, which ultimately led to Dortmund's exit from the tournament.
The English midfielder Bellingham expressed his disappointment with the decision and called it a "joke".
"I'm not sure what more he can do with his hand," Bellingham told BT Sport, referring to Wolf.
"That in itself was disappointing and the fact that they've had a retake, I think it's a joke.
"For every penalty, especially when you have such a slow run-up, there's going to be people encroaching into the box by a yard or so.
"He has made the decision and we have to live with it."
He argued that the initial decision to award a penalty against Dortmund defender Marius Wolf was already questionable, as he believed Wolf had little control over the ball hitting his outstretched hand.
Furthermore, Bellingham suggested that it is common for players to encroach into the box during a penalty, and therefore, the decision to allow a retake was unjustified.
Despite the controversial decision, Dortmund coach Edin Terzic opted not to complain about the referee's performance.
He acknowledged that decisions can be difficult to make, and ultimately, the team's performance on the pitch was what mattered most.
The match was an intense one, with Dortmund winning the first leg at home and Chelsea coming back strong in the second leg.
The penalty decision ultimately proved to be the turning point, as Chelsea secured their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
